It’s a big day in DIY world, a day I’ve been looking forward to since we started the bathroom renovation on December 26th. Please believe me when I say that I had no idea that the actual process would take so long, you’re probably so tired of me writing about it, but I think the end result is pretty worth it. Speaking of things that blow my mind, this here’s also my 400th post, so I’m treating myself to a day of relaxation on the deck in the sunshine to celebrate good, hard work.
Take some time today to browse through my collection of before and after photos, all shared in my latest post for DIY Network. There’s even a walking tour video (where I say approximately 400 words in a single breath), and a full, detailed breakdown of how much I spent to make this transformation a reality (certainly modest, but a smidgen over budget, oops).
Remember of course that I do have some additional finishing touches to add over the next few months. You can’t rush some things, and I haven’t been able to settle on a light fixture for over the vanity, a vent fan, or a style in which to frame the new gigundo mirror. So it’s about 95% done, only finishing touches from here, but it’ll be awhile before you see any of that happen.
If you missed the beginning of this bathroom renovation, catch up for on the entire series for yourself right here:
- A little video introduction and tour!
- An overview of the materials I’ve been purchasing! Because what DIY-crazed girl wouldn’t love tile shopping?
- And getting down and dirty with demolition!
- Training a beginner to repair a drain pipe and install a bathtub!
- Building custom shower shelving, and learning how to install HardiBacker.
- And learning more than I ever thought I’d know about shower valves and PEX.
- Four days of tiling. No exaggeration.
- And then we grouted our little hearts out.
- Leaned on and learned about underlayment.
- Drank lots of coffee, painted (and re-painted), and whipped through the floor install!
- Not to be ignored, an important finishing touch: I made custom baseboard trim from common lumber.
- The vanity installation brought so much to the room!
- Mirror, mirror, how do I hang you on a wall?
- We made custom window trim, something totally DIY-able to the masses.
- I forged ahead and combined white paint and pretty marble. Not together, of course.
- Added loads of decor…
- And laid it all out in a very merry grand reveal!

Woohoo!!!
It looks AMAZING! If you’re itching for another bathroom to renovate I have two you can have free reign on ;)
I sort of am “itching”… there are so many different ideas I want to try in a bathroom :)
New dream: execute one top to bottom modifying the footprint of the room and all.
It looks fabulous, especially considering how little this cost. Very inspiring!
Thanks Leone! I forgot to mention in the post that I was able to sell the vanity/sink/cabinet for $110 on Craigslist, so some of my overage was balanced out a little bit. If it’s salvageable, it’s sellable :)
Bathroom looks really, really nice! Love the floor, baseboard & window trim & the subway tile. Your artwork is a nice splash of color. You have great natural light in that room–2 windows. I’m glad you recycled the old vanity to someone-$110 -you are a good salesman too!
